I have been reading a book by Stephen Covey, about highly effective habits to have, and about our circle of Influence. The book is called The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People: Powerful Lessons in Personal Change. If you haven’t read this book, I totally recommend it. Stephen Covey talks about your circle of influence, and what is inside or outside of that. We have no control outside our circle of influence, so we cannot stay focused on that. Instead we need to focus on what we can influence.
Social Media Influence
Taking this into the social media area, you can look at who is in your circle of influence. Who are your clients? Which social media are they on? How can you grow your organic reach? Yes advertising is important, but you need to also maintain activity on your social media. Are you are spending money that is not a good return on investment?
Let’s take a look at some of these questions – Who are your clients? Their general age, gender, interest and so on will determine what social media you should choose for your business to target. For instance, a cute website I love is called www.poshpuppyboutique.com, they are on four Social Media Platforms. Three of these are very visual, and work well for their demographic, gender and age of ideal client. Their demographic would entail young female dog lovers, who are known to be active in Pinterest and Instagram in particular.
Where do your clients hang out?
Which social media are your clients on? Knowing the persona of your ideal client gives you a good indication of what social media they are likely to be on. Spredfast has developed an excellent infographic that will help you determine which social media to look at. https://www.spredfast.com/social-media-tips/social-media-demographics-current
Organic reach
How can you grow your social media organic reach? This is an enormous topic, and today we are only going to dip our toe in. I will put it on my topics to delve into later for each social media platform, but for a start you only want to start with one or two of the best suited platforms that your clients use. You need to be posting quality original content, (you can re-share this later) and use video where you can as it gets better engagement. Sproutsocial has a great article on the latest Facebook algorithm, it is not totally about organic reach but very good information. https://sproutsocial.com/insights/facebook-algorithm/
In wrapping up I hope this has helped you start thinking about how best to reach your circle of influence. Please leave a comment, I would love to hear about what has worked best for you when reaching your circle of influence.
